Lois P. Carter

Lois P. Carter, age 83 of Centerville, Iowa, died on Friday, February 3, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Jim and Nellie (Pennington) Nelson on November 13, 1928 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She graduated from the Cheyenne High School.

On April 2, 1953, Lois was united in marriage to James Carter. Lois worked for many years at Woolworth's. She as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville and enjoyed being a part of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary in Centerville, when her health permitted. Her favorite pastime was to crocheting.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; a grandson, Seth Carter; brothers, Marvin and Melvin Pennington; and a sister, Verle Mueller; and a son-in-law, Jeff Carpenter.

Lois is survived by: her husband, James Carter of Centerville, Iowa; a son Richard Carter and his wife, Lisa of Seymour, Iowa; and a daughter, Debra Carpenter of Broadway, Virginia; a sister, Joan Faber of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three grandchildren, Matthew Carpenter of Broadway, Virginia, Sarah Carter of Promise City, Iowa and Samantha Carter of Seymour, Iowa and two great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Juanita Pennington of Cheyenne, Wyoming and several nieces and nephews.

Per Lois's wishes, her body has been cremated and her ashes will be buried at a later date at the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be given to the Appanoose County Veteran's Affairs and can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
