Louis "Sol" B. Kauzlarich, age 90, of Centerville, Iowa, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. He was born the son of George and Tina (Kauzlarich) Kauzlarich on August 29, 1921 in Rathbun, Iowa. He graduated from the Rathbun Community School in 1940.

Sol was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Sanders on May 17, 1952 in Centerville, Iowa at St. Mary's Catholic Church. After graduating from High School, he worked for the Harbour Coal Mine in Rathbun. He served in the United States Army during WWII from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1944. After his discharge, he returned home and he and his father built and operated The Eagle Bar, a restaurant and entertainment establishment in Rathbun. He worked for Kentucky Life Insurance Company and co-owned and operated a slaughter house. In the 1950's, he and his wife managed the Maid-Rite in Centerville, Iowa, a popular teenage hang-out. He also owned and operated Sol's Stop-N-Shop Grocery Store in Rathbun and Sol's Ice Company. After retirement, he was employed with the Duley Funeral Home, and the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville. He also was engaged in farming and enjoyed trucking livestock. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, the Knight's of Columbus and the American Legion both in Centerville.

Sol embraced life with enormous enthusiasm. He shared a smile with everyone he met and was blessed to have many friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, attending auctions, afternoons at the sale barn, trips to the Casino and playing cards.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Barbara Jean Kauzlarich on September 14, 1966; his brothers, John "Jin" Kauzlarich and Robert Kauzlarich; and a sister, Margaret Gollaher; brother-in-laws, Bill Diotte, Tuffy Sanders, Max Sanders; and a sister-in-law, Marion Leino.

Sol is survived by: his son, Craig Kauzlarich of Cherokee, Iowa; daughters, Cindy Currie and her husband, Jim of Madison, South Dakota and Christina Bratz and her husband, Bradley of Numa, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jessica McCauley, Cody Kauzlarich, Catlin Currie and Ally Currie; sisters, Marie Ellison of Moravia, Iowa, Josephine Diotte of Centerville, Iowa, Rose Widmer of Milan, Illinois; sister-in-law, Judy Kauzlarich of Centerville, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa with Fr. Dennis Schaab officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm and a Prayer service at 7:30 pm.

Memorials can be made to either the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mercy Hospice or Veterans Affairs and can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
