Jessie "JB" Kelley, age 86, of Centerville, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. He was born in Hardeman County, Tennessee on May 16, 1925 and raised by his foster parents, Finis and Crystal Shaffer.

JB served his country during WWII with the United States Marines from 1943 until his Honorable Discharge in 1946. He served in the South Pacific as a Telephone Man. On October 14, 1948, JB was united in marriage to Evelyn V. Clark in Unionville, Missouri and later would be united in marriage to Mary Hiatt in June of 1973 in Centerville. He worked in a Power Plant along side his father, and later became a Lineman for Iowa Southern Utilities. He became a Supervisor and Legislative Agent for ISU at the State House in Des Moines and would retire after 43 years of service. He was a Boy Scout Leader for many years, a member of Jackson Lodge #42, a member of the Kaaba Shrine Club, President of the Road Runners, member of the VFW in Centerville, the First Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee and an Usher. JB was honored to attend the Honor Flight with his good friend, Howard Criswell in 2010 in Washington DC.

He was preceded in death by: his foster parents; and his first wife, Evelyn Valdene Kelley.

JB is survived by his wife; Mary Kelley of Centerville, Iowa; sons, Dan Kelley and his wife, Carol of Greentop, Missouri and Mike Kelley and his wife, Pat of Centerville, Iowa; a daughter, Trish Jones and her husband, Rich of Centerville, Iowa; step-son, Gary Hiatt and his wife, Debbie of Centerville, Iowa; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10 Am at the First Baptist Church in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, Missouri. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm.

Memorials can be made to either the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, Centerville VFW or First Baptist Church and left or mailed to the funeral home. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home of Centerville, Iowa has been entrusted with the arrangements and condolences can be sent at:
